Reached by a hanging bridge on an island in the middle of the Limpopo River is an exclusive hideaway called “Island Camp”.
Nestled under the thick canopy of the riverine forest, eternally shaded from the African sun lies four luxurious tents. The tents are large and roomy with an “Out of Africa” feel with colonial furniture and thick-featured duvets.
Each tent has its own beautiful bathroom with a Slipper bath and huge outdoor shower.
Private viewing decks allow guests to enjoy the fascinating secrets of the wildlife that visits the surrounding river.
The kitchen, dining room and lounge with a build-in fireplace are under thatch, with the Boma under open skies for dining under the stars.
One of “Island Camp” highlights is the wonderful sounds. In summer the roaring of the surrounding river and in winter the pre-dawn of bird songs starts of the morning. Accompanied by the haunting cries of the Fish Eagle, Baboons bark and screech and Hippo’s grunt. Elephants wonder past at night trumpeting and breaking branches with a rifle crack.
Finally get to sleep under the soothing “Pels Fishing” and “Scops Owls” calls
